Many years ago, I was walking along the street at dusk, and I got my first experience with fireflies. They surrounded me – on the grass, flowerbeds, shrubs. Their lights blinking on and off.
It was magical. I’ll never forget that walk or my first experience of these little creatures. Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of being with them each evening at dusk during the summer months. I never tire of the experience, or feel less than enchanted.
There are so many magical moments in nature. A time when a bumble bee sips nectar from a flower 6 inches away from you, or when a squirrel does impossible summersaults to successfully reach a bird feeder. You don’t need to go very far to give yourself that amazing experience.
It is amazing. I can feel an effervescence in my chest, a welling around my heart, and a connection to that part of nature I’m with. It feeds my soul.
Isn’t that what magic is supposed to do?
