Watching is different than doing

I’ve noticed how expert I am, and others are, at seeing the flaws in others who are working at accomplishing something. It might be leading a group, or doing housework, or baking a cake, or crafting something new. I think there’s a term for it – armchair critic. Probably akin to backseat driver.

It’s easy to see the flaws, until you’re the one doing. When you’re the doer, the accomplisher, things look different because you are viewing everything from a perspective that isn’t available to the outside observer.

If you’ve been a leader or accomplished something new, no matter how great or seemingly small, then you already know the difference. If you haven’t yet, I invite you to take the risk and expand into that different world.

Quote of the Week

I’ve never seen you paint’ … said the collector to the painter Jasper Johns. ‘Neither have I.’… said Jasper Johns to the collector.

Are we celebrating the wrong leaders?
